Cyclone Fani Updateds: IMD Declared “Red Alert” for Odisha

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red warning for the 17 districts of Odisha coast, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall due to Cyclone Fani at places such as Boudh, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Deogarh and other areas along the coastline.

The cyclonic storm is expected to cross the Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali by Friday afternoon.

Red Alert

Red Alert for May 3 (17 Districts) : Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Anugul, Dhenkanal, jajpur,Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balesore, Kendujhar,Maurbhanj.

Yellow Alert

Yellow Alert for May 3(5 District’s): Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Boudha, deogarh, Sundargarh.

Navy and Coast Guard ships and helicopters, relief teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed at various locations in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu. Army and Air Force units have also been put on standby as severe cyclonic storm Fani moves northwestwards.
According to ANI, IMD has said that wind speed is likely to reach 175-185 kmph and can further gust up to 205 kmph.

Fishermen have also been advised to not venture into the sea.
The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) met in Delhi on Tuesday to take stock of the preparedness in various states that are likely to face the brunt of the severe cyclonic storm.

Naval ships at Visakhapatnam and Chennai are standing-by to proceed to the most affected areas to undertake Humanitarian Aid Distress Relief (HADR), evacuation, logistic support including providing medical aid, the Navy said in a statement.
The NDRF is deploying 41 teams in Andhra Pradesh (8), Odisha (28) and West Bengal (5) for prepositioning.

In addition, the NDRF is keeping on standby 13 teams in West Bengal and 10 in Andhra Pradesh, the official said. A team NDRF comprises about 45 personnel.
The NCMC will meet again Wednesday to take stock of the emerging situation.

Director of regional meteorological centre, HR Biswas, said the impact of cuclone FANI is likely to be much more sever than TITLI, which hat hit Odisha-Andhra coast last year and killed at least 60 people

FANI Becomes Extremely Severe Cyclone, to Hit Odisha on May 3 Near Gopalpur and Puri Coast

Cyclone Fani, which has intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm, will be hitting the Odisha coast on Friday with wind speed around 205kmph. The Odisha government has declared holiday at schools and colleges in the state on Thursday in anticipation of the oncoming cyclonic storm.
As Odisha faces simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections, chief minister Naveen Patnaik has requested the Chief Election Commissioner to remove the Model Code of Conduct and postpone elections in the Patkura assembly seat in Kendrapara, which is scheduled for May 19.


Cyclone to Make Landfall on May 3: IMD
IMD Director General Dr KJ Ramesh said on Wednesday Fani cyclone is now extremely severe. Cyclone Fani will make landfall near Puri on May 3 evening. The cyclone will have a major impact on coastal areas of Odisha and coastal belt of West Bengal, IMD’s official said.
IMD Director General Dr KJ Ramesh said most of the coastal areas in West Bengal will experience furious weather due to cyclone on May 4.
He added that people are advised not to go near the coast in Odisha and West Bengal from May 3-5.

Poll Code Lifted in 11 Districts
The Election Commission (EC) has lifted the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in 11 costal districts of Odisha in anticipation of the landfall of Cyclone Fani. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mr. Surendra Kumar told Election Commission lifts it for facilitate relief and rescue operations.

Election violence: Odisha Cong Chief Niranjan Patnaik ‘attacked’ in Keonjhar during last day of Campaign.

Keonjhar: Poll violence increase day by day in Odisha election, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik has been injured after his vehicle was attacked by some miscreants during an election rally in  Keonjhar’s  Ghasipura Assembly constituency today.
Nirtanjan Patnaik is contesting the polls from Ghasipura assembly seat against minister Badri Narayan Patra  (BJD) and Prithviraj Kuanr (BJP).
Apart from Patnaik, five to seven Congress workers were also injured in the attack. Three of them have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The OPCC President filed a police complaint at Ramchandrapur police station alleging BJD men were involved in the incident.
Going a step ahead, the Keonjhar District Congress Working President Ratikant Baral claimed local MLA and Minister Badri Narayan Patra’s son Debasish Patra’s direct involvement in the attack.
He also alleged that some of their election campaign vehicles were vandalised by the BJD “goons”.
The Keonjhar SP Jay Narayan Pankaj said “the matter is being under investigation and stringent action will be taken against the culprits”.

BJP Declares First List of 10 Lok Sabha Candidates for Odisha.

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi : Putting all speculations to rest, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today announced candidates for 184 Lok Sabha seats including 10 from Odisha. BJD deserters Baijayant Panda and  Balabhadra Majhi among BJP’s 1st list of  Lokasabha Candidates. The BJP list has three women out of the 10 candidates named, Almost matching with its against party Biju Janatadal which has fielded three women candidates out of nine candidates.

 The saffron party has fielded its national vice-president, Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda from Kendrapara while Aparajita Sarangi will contest from Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency.

As per the first list of candidates announced today, union minister Jual Oram (Union Minister) will contest from Sundergarh again. Rudra Narayan Pani will contest from Dhenkanal, Anita Subhadarshini from Aska, Balabhadra Majhi from Nabarangpur, Bhrugu Baxipatra from Berhampur, Pratap Sarangi from Balasore, Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo from Bolangir and Anant Nayak from Keonjhar Lok Sabha seat.

AIIMS-Bhubaneswar formally dedicated to the Public

Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad formally dedicateed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar to public on Wednesday.

Besides the Union Health Minister, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Srikant Jena, State Health Minister Damodar Rout and local MP Prasanna Patsani were grace the occasion. 


The premier medical institute of the State built over an area of 1,25,000 square metre has three operation theatres (OTs), a recovery ward, four high dependant units, a 10-bed ICU along with 150 beds spanning different specialties. 

The hospital had started the OPD services in the basic disciplines of medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, dentistry and gynaecology in June last year which increased to 24 subsequently. On the day of inauguration, the institution would introduce e-card system, which is also called as health card, for patients coming to the hospital. Through the card, the patients can know about the disease, treatment and doctor assigned. “The e-card will be introduced from Wednesday. It will help patients store all data regarding treatment in the hospital,” said Prof Mohapatra
